Renaming – People, Things, Places

Names are powerful. They shape how we understand ourselves, how others relate to us, and how we make sense of the world around us. The Völkerkundemuseum at the University of Zurich has outgrown its name and is seeking a new one. This exhibition is part of that transition and invites you to consider more broadly what is at stake when names change. Drawing on items from the museum’s collection, we explore what it means to name and rename people, things and places, bringing to light the many stories that are connected to names.
